OEL Talk #10 | European School Education Platform

Discover the European School Education Platform, its growth, key features, and technical challenges tackled with DIGIT DevOps and QA Teams.

What to expect from this session

This session will introduce the European School Education Platform (school-education.ec.europa.eu), managed by EACEA & DG EAC. Participants will gain insights into its reach, community, and the key features that have supported its growth with the help of its users.

We will also explore the platform’s integration with tools and features from the European Web Tools as well as existing or upcoming Corporate Services.

Additionally, we will delve into the technical challenges encountered over the last four years of development and discuss how close collaboration with DIGIT DevOps and QA Teams has enabled us to overcome them.

Target Audience

This session is open to both a business audience (site owners, webmasters, project managers) and a technical audience (developers, architects). No prior technical knowledge is required, although familiarity with Drupal and web technologies may be beneficial.

About the Speaker

Dragos Papatoiu is a CMS Craft Lead at Tremend (part of Publicis Sapient), specialising in Drupal implementations. With over 17 years of experience as a PHP web application developer, including 11 years in Drupal development, they have played a key role in various European Commission projects since 2015. Their contributions span eight projects, from smaller initiatives to their most significant project to date—the European School Education Platform.

Beyond work, they are passionate about microlearning and always strive to enhance their skills. Their curiosity extends to the AI era, particularly Generative AI. They also took part in the Drupal @ Europa Web Platform Hackathon, where their team (AIAIAI!) secured 3rd place with an EU Assistant Chatbot powered by Amazon Q Business AI.

Outside their professional life, they dedicate time to their two daughters and take pride in their Lego collection, which boasts over 20 models, many exceeding 2,000 pieces.
