Welcome to the latest session of OpenEuropa Library Talks, your hub for engaging discussions, insightful presentations, and lightning sessions focused on the Europa IT Platform. In this session, we delve into key topics surrounding ISTQB standards, testing best practices, and community updates.

Abel Santos, an accomplished Drupal Consultant with extensive experience in web development, application integration, and software testing, brought essential concepts, principles, and standards of testing as defined by ISTQB guidelines. He emphasised their practical application in projects within the OpenEuropa Library (OEL), stressing importance on robust testing protocols for ensuring software quality and reliability.

Throughout his presentation, Santos demonstrated various testing activities, tools, and techniques implemented across diverse projects. Examples from sites like ERA, EPPO and HEH highlighted successful applications of ISTQB principles. He provided insights into planning, designing, implementing, executing, and reporting tests using tools such as JIRA, Confluence and Miro. Santos also engaged participants in an interactive Q&A session, where discussions covered automation, component testing, testing maturity, among many more challenges and innovative solutions in the testing domain.

During the development (migration) phase, Santos addressed the inherent risks of relying solely on manual testing to meet acceptance criteria. In order to mitigate all these risks, ISTQB testing standards are the solution. This approach aims to enhance the management of requirements, test plans, and cycles while involving all team members (including UX/UI Designers, Business Analysts, Developers and clients) to minimise post-deployment issues and ensure the delivery of valuable features.

Abel Santos's expertise spans over two decades, with significant contributions to leading companies. Since joining DIGIT in 2021, he has integrated COBOL and Drupal technologies into innovative solutions.

Join us every Tuesday at 16:00 for regular OEL Talks to collaborate, learn and innovate across diverse roles and expertise areas.
